The Builder Base's power connections consist of three GND ports, a 3.3V, and a 5V port.

The 5V port is connected to the USB terminal and to a 3.3V low dropout regulator which connects to the 3.3V port and the processor.

The Builder Base can be powered via micro USB, in this case the 5V port is available and the 3.3V port can provide up to 400mA.

It can also be powered directly through the 5V port, just make sure to not exceed an input of 6V at any time! The 3.3V port can provide 400mA as well in this configuration.

If a voltage between 2.3V and 3.3V is available, those can be applied to the 3.3V port. It is just important, that in this case 3.3V are not surpassed at any point in time. Also, we do not guarantee that all drivers will work at a voltage level of less than 3.3V, when they are specified for 3.3V.

The Builder Base can also be powered via a CR2032 coin cell battery. To do this, you must remove the bottom cap of the Builder Base by unscrewing the center screw, insert a battery into the CR2032 battery receptacle, and flip the adjacent switch from the “USB” position to the “Battery” Position.

Now neither the 3.3V or the 5V pin carry any voltage to prevent draining energy by accident. All low energy drivers specify a pin in their configuration to power a drivers.

If a voltage greater than 6V is supplied to the 5V port or a voltage greater than 3.3V to the 3.3V port, you run the risk of frying the electronics!
